*Aural care is the management of ear wax, foreign bodies, and debris within the ear canal.
Does my wax need removing?
Ear wax protects the delicate skin of the ear canal. It contains antibacterial agents that help prevent infection, and it is sticky, catching dirt and dust. Wax is the natural self-cleaning mechanism of the ear. It is made in the outer third of the ear canal (nearest the entrance) and as the skin of the ear canal grows outwards, it brings the old wax and it’s collected debris with it. For most people wax is not a problem and can be left alone.
However, wax can cause a hearing problem or become uncomfortable if it blocks the ear canal completely, has been pushed further down the ear than it would naturally be, or becomes impacted. For people who wear hearing aids, a build-up of wax can prevent the hearing aids from working as effectively as they should.
The eardrum and skin in the ear canal are extremely delicate and easily damaged potentially leading to a perforated eardrum or infection. Wax should always be removed by a trained healthcare professional.

Your Ear Care Visit
Your needs come first, and I am pleased to provide personalised and attentive care.
Many practitioners are only able to offer one type of wax removal (usually using either microsuction or irrigation) but each are not suitable for some ears so I am pleased to be able to offer the full range of techniques.
I will go through your medical history relating to your ears with you, and examine your ears using magnification. I can remove wax using three different techniques depending on your medical history and wishes. This could be microsuction (using a tiny suction device to 'hoover' out the wax), irrigatation using body-temperature water, or manually picking out the wax using tiny instruments.
After-care guidance will always be given.
What is the cost?
A consultation fee of £25 is payable per visit.
If wax is found and cleared the total cost is £60.00 (including the consultation fee).
